Jesus and Baptism

"Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Romans 10:9

salvation is in Jesus...

#1: Admit you need the Savior Jesus:

Every person is born into sin, and under God's judgment. (Psalm 51)

There is no one righteous, no not one. (Romans 3:10) We must give up the idea that we can save ourselves.

All are under God's certain future judgment, if left to themselves. (1 Peter 4:15; Hebrews 9:27)

But there is good news... God the Father provides a way of salvation through Jesus:

#2: Believe in Jesus as your Savior and Lord.

Each person must trust in Jesus to be saved. (John 3:16; Acts 4:12; Acts 17)

The Bible says: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16) Jesus came and died on the cross for your sins.

Come as you are.  Place your belief or faith into Jesus as God's provision of salvation for you. The Bible says "whoever" calls on the name of the Lord Jesus will be saved (Romans 10:13). That's you too!

Salvation is a gift, you receive by faith, it is not by works you do. (Ephesians 2:8, 9)

Admit that you need Jesus to save you, not just others, and not just that Jesus is a religious idea or figure:

#3: Confess Jesus Yourself.

So it is one thing to know about Jesus. It is another to go to the Lord personally and trust in Him in prayer.

Take a moment to confess Jesus as your Savior and Lord. Tell God the Father that you trust Jesus is your Savior and Lord, and your hope is only in Him for salvation.

What then, now?

You can expect peace from God when you trust in Jesus. You can also expect the Devil might lie to you, that you didn't do anything, or God didn't hear you. Ignore that static. Rather, if you trust in Jesus as the Bible says, you are saved, that's that (Romans 10:13). Jesus is the Good Shepherd who never forsakes His sheep, He goes after the one sheep that leaves the fold, to find them. Do not fear the future.

The first thing the disciples of Jesus called people to do after believing in Jesus personally, was to be baptized.

Being baptized is based on their profession of faith in Jesus. Peter for instance said after turning from trusting self, and instead trusting in Jesus as Savior, people should be baptized then, Acts 2:38.

Jesus modeled this. The disciples taught it as a natural next step. Will you take that step?

To reach out about baptism, we are glad to help, you may email us or call our church office M-Th 9a-4pm to let us know you have questions or may be interested in it.

I've not been to church lately, will I be accepted?

Yes. This is a group that you can connect to easily. None of us are perfect or have all of life together. We're on the journey, following Jesus by faith.

SPBC is made up of people from all kinds of backgrounds, jobs, careers, life situations, situations, & nearby cities.  You definitely are able to build solid friendships in the faith at Sandy Plains Baptist Church.

What are some ways to connect, outside of just sunday am?

-Small Groups. These are a way to get to know other Christians and to grow in the faith. Small groups are just that, smaller than a large worship service gathering, but enough people in each to also connect and build friends. You may try any of them. They meet Sundays at 9:30 am in the brick buildings at SPBC. Just let any greeter know you're interested, or staff, and we'll get you to one to check out this week.

-Awana Kid's Club (all younger pre and grade-aged kids) - This is a fun program to learn more about Jesus.  Sundays 5:00 pm. During Covid season in the USA, Awana is aiming for a planned restart in August 2021.

-Prayer & Worship Service, Wednesdays 6:30 pm in the Chapel. Prayer is a powerful thing. Be spiritually strengthened at this Midweek prayer & worship time.  This is open to any and seeks to lift up needs and the cause of Christ in prayer.

-Men's & Women's Ministry gatherings and events are available regularly. There are gatherings, Bible studies, and get away type conference trips. Stay tuned to the bulletin, email newsletter, and announcements for the latest upcoming event details.

-Serving Opportunities.  There are many options available, too many to list. There are varied ways to connect, and we'd love to have you join us in serving Jesus together.

-Student Ministry.  Each week there are several Student gatherings available. The main Youth/Student gathering is Wednesdays 6 pm socialize (doors open) and 6:30 pm Worship & Bible study. Students meet in an updated lower level of the Chapel building (aka "The Well" area).

-Missions.  Missions is a way to care for others, locally, regionally, and globally. When you're ready, we do local service projects and aid (lots of options), regional missions (especially Appalachian), and international missions (in Central-South America-South Asia, etc.).  We also give very generously towards those in addition. There are mission emphases at select times of the year as well to participate in too.

We look forward to seeing you Sunday mornings to start at Sandy Plains 8:30 / 10:30 am!
